もうすぐ日本語表示が可能に？
Chumbyには日本語フォントが搭載されていないため、日本語の含まれるページを開いたり、iTunesの日本語タイトルの曲をかけるとその部分だけ表示されないわけですが、これももうすぐ解決しそうです。
Chumbyのフォーラムで、こんな書き込みを見つけました。
Recently I have made a new twitter widget to check updates written in multibyte characters such as Japanese fonts. I have embeded a Japanese true type font to my widget and the widgets size became over _2M bytes_ since Japanese font is big. And it is not possible to upload the widget to chumby.com because of the 100K size limitation. Is there any workaround for this issue?チャンビーで日本語で書き込まれた twitterの更新情報をチェックするウィジェットを使って、日本語のTrueTypeフォントも埋め込んだんだけど、フォントが重いのでサイズが２Mを超えちゃってchumby.comにアップロードできません。なんとかなりませんか？

For the network, not at the moment - we're looking into including some CJK fonts into the device itself so that you would not have to embed them, but that's not going to happen in the short term.In the meantime, you'll probably have to run such widgets locally from a USB dongle, using this trick.
残念ながら、現時点では回避方法はありませんが、すぐには実現しないかもしれませんが、現在日本語、中国語、韓国語のフォントをチャンビー本体側に持たせることでウィジェットに埋め込まなくてもすむ方法を検討しています。それまでは、USB経由でローカルのウィジェットとして実行するしかないですね。やりかたの詳細はこちら。
これは、うれしいニュースですね。Chumby側でフォントを実装してくれれば、日本語環境に対応したウィジェットを作るのが簡単になるし、それまでの間でも、ちょっと手間をかければユーザ同士で日本語対応ウィジェットを交換して、chumby.comを介さずにUSBドングルからローカルで読ませることができるというわけです。
とりあえず、フォーラムに書き込みをしたmargsさんが、Twitterの日本語ウィジェットをどこかで公開してくれるとうれしいですね。
